                          Herbert Erskine Foard
                   December 12, 1928 - March 19, 2020

Herbert Erskine Foard left this world peacefully on March 19, 2020. He was preceded in death by his wife of seventy years, Bobbie Stokes Foard and his parents, Al Burtis Foard and Ruth Aline Yandle Foard. Mr. Foard was born in Charlotte on December 12, 1928. He graduated from Harding High School in 1947 and began employment with the United States Postal Service in 1951 as a letter carrier. He retired as a postal supervisor after 37 years. After retirement, Mr. Foard attended CPCC and was on the Dean's List.

Mr. Foard was a lifelong member of Glenwood ARP Church and served in many capacities including deacon, and elder, and he was a member of the church choir. In addition, he was a member of the National Association of Postal Supervisors, Paw Creek Mason Lodge and the Harding High Alumni Association.

Mr. Foard was an accomplished golfer who made many long-lasting friendships on the golf course. Also an avid gardener, he took great pride in his yard and his home. He and his wife loved to travel and visited many places in U.S, Mexico and Canada.

To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Mr. Foard was Big Paw with a wonderful sense of humor who was known for his jokes and his little pranks on the younger ones. He will be very missed.

Mr. Foard is survived by daughters, Rebecca Foard Friend and her husband, Robert of Mount Holly, NC, and Sharon Foard Lamb and her husband, Bobby of Denver, NC; grandsons Scott Miller of Charlotte, Brandon Miller and his wife, Kym, of Seabrook, TX, Rob Lamb and his wife, Megan, of Denver, NC; granddaughters Anna Carpenter and her husband, Andrew, of Charlotte, NC, and Michelle Halterman and her husband, Richard, of Denver, NC; brother, Zeke Foard of Charlotte; sister Dorothy Foard Perry of Irmo, SC, along with many nieces and nephews. His pride and joy were his 10 great-grandchildren: Wyatt Miller, Gray Miller, Paxton Miller, Hendrix Miller, Reid Miller, Addison Carpenter, Brooks Carpenter, Aubrey Halterman, Laney Halterman, and Robby Lamb.

Mr. Foard's immediate family will hold an intimate graveside service for Mr. Foard at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, due to the current Covid-19 restrictions on large gatherings, but a celebration of his life will be planned for the summer for extended family, friends and loved ones. Ronald Howard Pence 
 March 16, 1939 - October 5, 2019
Ronald Howard Pence, 80, of Matthews, died at home on Thursday, October 5, 2019, after a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

He was born March 16, 1939 in Washington, DC, the son of the late Louise Brickhouse Pence and Roy Howard Pence. He was raised in Charlotte and was a 1956 graduate of Harding High School, where he played football, basketball and baseball. He attended N.C. State University and Charlotte College (now UNCC) and served in the United States Air Force from 1958-1962, stationed at Hickham Field on Oahu, Hawaii.

Ron was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church for nearly 50 years, serving his church family as an elder and lay minister for decades. He worked in automobile sales for 45 years, retiring from Lincoln-Mercury in 2008. After his retirement, Ron served as an officer, and later as the president, of the Harding High School Alumni Association. He enjoyed fishing and gardening, and most especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Cecilia Adams Pence; his son-in-law, Al Broome; and his sister, Jacqueline Pence Griffin.

He is survived by his son, Howard Pence, and his wife Julie, of Mint Hill; daughters, Melanie Pence Broome and Allison Pence, both of Matthews; grandchildren, Carson Pence of Chapel Hill, Natalie Broome of Greensboro, Jackson Pence of Tallahassee and Christian Broome of Cullowhee; and his sisters, Louise Pence Nordman and her husband, Bob, of Indian Land, and Mary Pence McCall of Charlotte.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019 beginning at 1:30pm at Ascension Lutheran Church. Funeral Service will begin at 3pm with the Rev. Steven E. Newberg presiding. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Ascension Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.

                                           John Thomas Puckett
                                        April 23, 1934 -  June 11, 2019
LITTLE RIVER - John Thomas Puckett, 85, died June 11, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 23, 1934 in Charlotte, NC, he was the son of the late Walter C. and Emily A. Thomas Puckett. He was a wonderful husband, father and an avid Panthers fan. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Betty “Joyce” Thompson Puckett; daughter, Denise Puckett; sisters, Theresa McLendon, Betty Sippel, Pat Broom, Marcia Erikson; and his faithful cat, Gyzmo. He is predeceased by one sister, Jonsie Puckett and his cat JoJo. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm on Saturday, June 11 in Lee Funeral Home Chapel.

                                             Bobbie Stokes Foard
                                   APRIL 13, 1930 – JUNE 28, 2018
On June 28, 2018 death came quietly to Bobbie Stokes Foard. Mrs. Foard was a native of Charlotte NC having been born on April 13, 1930 near what is now CPCC. Mrs. Foard graduated from Harding High School in the class of 1948 and before her retirement was Administrative Assistant to the Director of Frito-Lays, Inc. In earlier years she was administrative assistant with The Kroger Company. She served for 14 years as Treasurer of the Harding High School Alumni Association where she was a dedicated member and loved planning special events for the alumni members. She also served as National President of the Auxiliary to the National Association of Postal Supervisors, as well as, President of the North Carolina Postal Supervisors Auxiliary. While serving as National President of the NAPS Auxiliary, she traveled all over the United States working on behalf of the Postal Supervisors of which her husband, Erskine Foard, was a member. She met with Senators in Washington DC on many occasions on behalf of NAPS. Her husband was the love of her life and they were happily married for 70 years. They both loved to travel and went on many tours and cruises during their marriage. They both agreed that their favorite trip was to Alaska and dreamed of going again. Mrs. Foard’s family was her life. She enjoyed planning beach events and many other travels for her family. Her joy was her two daughters, two son-in-laws, and five grandchildren and their spouses, and eight great-grandchildren. She is survived by husband, H. Erskine Foard, daughter Rebecca Friend (Robert), daughter Sharon Lamb (Bobby), granddaughter Michelle Lamb Halterman (Rich), grandson Rob Lamb (Megan), granddaughter Anna Friend Carpenter (Andrew), grandson Scott Foard Miller, grandson Brandon Miller (Dr. Kym), and eight great grandchildren. Mrs. Foard was the youngest of ten children. Her parents Ernest Clifton Stokes and Nancy Jones Stokes have already returned home to be with the Lord. Her only surviving sibling is her sister, Loretta Moore of Matthews NC who was so very special to her. Funeral services will be held at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, 7400 Mt. Holly Rd., Charlotte NC on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 11:00am, the visitation will begin at 10:00am. The burial will immediately follow in the family plot at Forest Lawn West Cemetery. In lieu of flowers family requests memorials be made to Harding High School Alumni Association, 2915 Kanimbla Drive, Charlotte, NC 28214.
